Water sports, golden showers, pee play, or whatever other euphemism you prefer to use to describe the practice. If you’ve been following U.S. politics, you should probably be familiar with the niche fetish of piss play.
The technical term for this practice is urolagnia or urophilia and is defined as the sexual arousal or excitement associated with the sight, smell, taste, or simply the thought of urine.
A bit of history
Did you know that the term Golden Shower actually stems all the way back to the Ancient Greeks?
In one particularly popular myth, Zeus, the almighty god of the sky spots a beautiful woman who’s locked up in a roofless chamber. Being unable to resist her beauty, yet also wishing for the woman to remain unaware of his advances, Zeus transforms into a dark rain cloud and proceeds to inseminate the young woman by means of a golden shower.
That’s right folks, Zeus turned into a shower of gold in order to impregnate a fair maiden. Who would have thought that the Greek god of thunder and lighting was an urophile!?
Shades of Golden
While some urophiles enjoy getting directly peed on, consuming the urine, bathing in it, smelling urine-soaked items, and so on and so forth, others are solely aroused by the feeling of having a full bladder or the thought of others having an uncomfortably full bladder.
This latter type of arousal is more often linked to possible sadomasochist inclinations rather than loving the actual pee itself. It is debated whether to place this particular full-bladder fetish as part on part of the humiliation/pain spectrum of sadomasochism, or rather have it fall under the general fetish of urophilia. Since it tends to focus on the discomfort associated with having to pee rather than the actual substance itself, I would say that it leans more towards the sado/maso spectrum.
No matter how you want to look at it, pee play, as you can see, has a wide range of possibilities!
When thinking of different and outlandish fetishes, urophilia is often up there on the bizarre scale. For some, it is on the top tier level of sexy, while others are utterly repulsed by the very thought of it.
However, many people tend to fall more on the indifferent side of the scale and do not particularly enjoy the practice, but will go along with it if their partner wishes. This might seem odd to some, but it actually makes sense. Unlike other forms of scat fetishes that deal with regurgitation or even…you guessed it, defecation, urine is the safest and most sterile of human expulsions.
But is it really safe?
Many people claim that urine is sterile.
Sterile basically means free from any living microorganisms or pathogens. Although urine is by far the most sterile of the three types of excrement, urine being completely sterile is not 100 % accurate.
Earlier studies did claim urine to be sterile. However, somewhat recent scientific analyses of the substance show that once the urine enters the urethra, epithelial cells become colonized by specific types of bacteria.
Regardless of all this scientific mumbo jumbo, urine is NOT toxic. And if you want to get really specific, the human body is basically covered from head to toe with myriad types of different bacteria. So a minuscule amount of bacteria in your urine-based cocktail really isn’t the end of the world.
Unlike having to deal with the dangerous, not to mention, foul-smelling bacteria and highly concentrated stomach acids that you would encounter with other scat related activities, urine is composed of 95% water.
Urine, as you probably already know, is created in the kidneys through a filtration of blood. Essentially, without getting too technical, your body is constantly undergoing different filtration processes in order to remove the bad stuff and retain the good stuff. This “stuff,” is generally consumed and directly linked to the alimentation of the individual.
All this to say that the more health conscious you are about what you are putting into your body, the cleaner and safer your urine will be. In fact, potable water can be extracted from the urine of a healthy individual.
So while it’s not recommended to drink gallons of the stuff, a tiny bit won’t hurt!
Humiliation, domination, and all that jazz
It wouldn’t be wrong to associate piss play with humiliation, degradation, and dominant/submissive behavior.
Pissing on someone while they are prone or even pissing on a tombstone are considered to be some of the most degrading and vile acts imaginable. It is just so damn disrespectful to pee on a poor non-consenting soul. Yet, as we are aware, psychology plays a huge role in what one may find arousing.
An incredibly large percentage of people are into psychological and sexual domination or submission in some form or another. Some find most pleasure in being the dominating one in the bedroom, while others enjoy being on the submissive side.
Why people are attracted to these behaviors is a subjective mystery. Meaning that there is no one answer to the question. Everyone has their own, either conscious or unconscious, reasons as to why they like what they like.
However, many sexologists tend to agree on the notion that an individual will likely be attracted to a dynamic that they are lacking in their everyday life. For example, if someone is generally the passive type in their everyday life such as at work, at school, or with their friends, that individual may be more inclined to be the assertive and dominant one in the bedroom. While one who may be more of the bossy type or perhaps hold a high position in society may tend to let loose in the bedroom and submit to their dominant partner of choice.
It often comes down to role play
People like to role-play. It is human nature to enjoy pretending to feel as if they are in a situation that they wouldn’t normally experience in their day to day lives. For those who enjoy sexual humiliation and submissiveness, getting pissed on can be the apex of their desires.
And for those who desire to dominate their partner, pissing on someone in a consensual and safe setting is the epitome of their sexual arousal. With all of the stigmas associated with peeing on people and with it being viewed as this vile and disrespectful act, the mysteries of piss play begin to unfold.
For others, simply the relieving act of peeing, the warmth of the urine, and the direct relation it has with our genitals are enough to get them off.
Regardless of why people like this fetish, piss play is quite common in the fetish community. With it being on the safer side of different paraphilia, consensual piss play should not be stigmatized.
Just because you may be squeamish around other people’s urine, keep in mind that there are others out there that aren’t! Don’t be quick to judge a practice just because it isn’t your cup of tea…or should I say, your cup of pee!
Now I wouldn’t recommend finding a bunch of strangers and having them pee on you, but if you’re being safe and smart about what you do in the bedroom, then by all means go and have some wholehearted fun!
